Music today is all about variety: Classical, Jazz, C&W, R&B, AC, Rhythmic AC, Adult Top 40, Soul, Oldies, Classic Hits, AOR, Nostalgia, AAA, etc. The average music station, whether online or terrestrial, is usually niche-specific and doesnt go beyond a self-defined boundary. There are some exceptions, mostly in the non-commercial band of FM radio (in the U.S., anyway), but even these usually dedicate large blocks of programming to long form features such as talk or news.
Supernova Radio returns to the days of Top 40 programming in the 1960s, where you will hear the Beach Boys, the Statler Brothers, Black Sabbath, the Temptations, Cannonball Adderley, Jack Jones, the Serendipity Singers, or Miriam Makeba on the same station. Access to diverse music is much broader today due to technical advances in communication, but most everyones focus has become more narrowly defined. But there is less variety within those stations. Those same advances which created many more stations created a narrower focus on a specific target audience.
